Zomato’s quick-commerce arm, Blinkit, has launched a 10-minute ambulance service, marking a significant step in addressing the urgent need for fast and reliable emergency medical response in urban areas.
Blinkit’s co-founder and CEO, Albinder Dhindsa, shared the news on X, stating that the initiative aims to tackle the problem of providing rapid and dependable ambulance services in cities. The service is set to begin in Gurugram on January 2, with an initial fleet of five ambulances. Dhindsa also revealed that this service will expand to additional areas in the near future.
Users will soon see an option to book a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance via the Blinkit app. These ambulances are equipped with vital life-saving tools, including oxygen cylinders, AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators), stretchers, monitors, suction machines, and emergency medicines and injections. Each vehicle will also be staffed with a paramedic, an assistant, and a trained driver.
Dhindsa emphasized that the service is not aimed at generating profit but at providing an affordable and reliable solution for customers, stating, "We are committed to addressing this critical issue for the long term."
The company is working meticulously on scaling this service, with plans to expand to major cities over the next two years.
In recent months, Blinkit has been diversifying its offerings. Last month, it introduced a new app, Bistro, focused on quick food delivery, and launched features like large order fleets and the ‘Blinkit Seller Hub’ for vendor listings. Additionally, earlier this week, Blinkit expanded its reach by launching services in Jammu and rolled out an option for users to delete their order history.
On the financial front, Blinkit reported a revenue of INR 1,156 crore for Q2 of FY25, more than double the INR 505 crore it earned in the same quarter last year. The company also significantly reduced its adjusted EBITDA loss, narrowing it to INR 8 crore compared to INR 125 crore in Q2 FY24.
