Starting Small in Raipur, Thinking Beyond Borders

Not every startup begins in a metro city with a team, funding, and a clear roadmap. Some begin quietly, with one person figuring things out as they go.

Jatin Khatri, the founder of Khatri Automations, is building exactly that kind of story from Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Today, it is a one person operation where he handles everything himself, from client conversations to building and delivering automation systems.

There is no conventional startup background here. No elite network or early funding advantage. What exists instead is a pattern of learning through experimentation. Jatin spent his early days working with Google Apps Script, building cold email systems, experimenting with offline desktop apps for kirana and medical stores, and even setting up recruitment automation pipelines for international clients.

The journey did not follow a straight line. It was built by testing, failing, and rebuilding until something started to click.

Where It All Began

The idea for Khatri Automations did not come from a grand vision. It started with curiosity.

Jatin began experimenting with n8n while trying to automate operations in his own family business. What started as a simple internal test quickly revealed something bigger. He saw how much time could be saved by automating repetitive work, and more importantly, how accessible this could be for businesses that usually do not invest in technology.

That small experiment became the foundation of his venture.

But the real trigger came later. While working with different businesses, he noticed a common pattern. Teams were spending hours on tasks that could be handled in minutes through structured workflows. Logistics companies manually call vendors every day. Recruitment agencies are stuck in repetitive data entry cycles.

What stood out was not excitement about automation. It was a relief.

That reaction made it clear that this was not just a tool to explore. It was a problem worth solving seriously.

Identifying the Gap Others Missed

As Jatin started working with clients, he realized that the problem was not just inefficiency. It was accessible.

In India, automation services are often priced out of reach for small and mid sized businesses. On the other end, generic solutions fail to address real operational challenges.

There was no one building specifically for a business owner in a city like Raipur who runs a school or a transport company and deals with daily operational friction but has no technical team.

At the same time, international markets showed a different but equally important gap. Many UK and US based businesses, especially recruitment agencies, were overloaded with repetitive work but could not justify the cost of large scale enterprise solutions.

This created a unique opportunity. To build custom automation systems that are practical, affordable, and tailored to how each business actually works.

What Khatri Automations Really Builds

At its core, Khatri Automations is not about tools. It is about systems.

Before writing a single line of automation, Jatin focuses on understanding how a business operates. This includes studying workflows, tools, team structures, and identifying exactly where time is being lost or errors are happening.

Only after this deep dive does the building begin.

The solutions broadly fall into three categories:

  • WhatsApp Automation

  • AI Voice Agents

  • Custom End to End Automation Systems

What makes the approach different is simple. Nothing is pre built. There are no templates being reused across clients. Each system is designed from scratch based on the specific needs of that business.

This focus on depth over speed has become a defining characteristic of the company.

Challenges That Shaped the Journey

Like most early stage ventures, the journey came with its own set of hard lessons.

One of the biggest mistakes early on was falling into the product first mindset. Jatin spent months building tools without validating whether anyone would actually pay for them. The shift to a client first approach, where real problems are solved for paying customers, changed everything.

Credibility was another challenge. Running a solo operation from a Tier-2 city while working with international clients often comes with assumptions about quality and scale. This gap was bridged not through positioning, but through consistent delivery and clear documentation of results.

Cash flow also required careful handling. Automation projects demand significant upfront effort, while payments are not always evenly distributed. Introducing retainer based pricing helped bring stability to the business.

Networking turned out to be an unexpected growth driver. Joining BNI opened access to high trust connections, which led to meaningful projects including work with logistics companies.

Moments That Defined Growth

Every startup has a point where things begin to feel real.

For Khatri Automations, one such moment was securing MSME registration under Udyam. It added structure and recognition to what had been an independent operation.

A more defining milestone was closing a project for a natural stones experience center. This involved building a QR based AI voice tour system, a solution that combined creativity with technical execution. It was the first major deal that validated both the idea and the approach.

Currently, one of the most ambitious projects underway is for a logistics company, Bajrangbali Roadways. The project involves building a complex system combining AI voice agents and WhatsApp automation. It reflects the scale and depth the company is moving toward.

Looking Ahead: From Services to Scalable Systems

The immediate focus for Khatri Automations is clear. Build a strong base of retainer clients across India and international markets while going deeper into WhatsApp and AI voice automation infrastructure.

But the long term vision goes beyond services.

Jatin is actively exploring the transition into product based offerings, including a WhatsApp SaaS platform aligned with Meta’s Tech Partner ecosystem. The idea is to use service revenue to fund research and development, eventually building scalable solutions that can reach a wider audience.

Over the next five years, the goal is ambitious yet grounded. To become a globally recognized name in automation while staying deeply relevant to Tier-2 and Tier-3 businesses in India.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Jatin’s advice comes from experience rather than theory.

Do not build until someone is willing to pay for it. Ideas may feel strong, but validation comes only when a customer sees enough value to invest.

Another important lesson is about location. Building from a non metro city is no longer the limitation it once was. What matters is the quality of work and how effectively it is presented.

Opportunities are not always about where you are. They are about what you ship and who you show it to.
