From Corporate Finance to Building Articolo India: The Entrepreneurial Journey of Vikas Gupta
Vikas Gupta, a Chartered Accountant and former corporate finance professional at GE and Macquarie Bank, transformed his corporate experience into an entrepreneurial venture. Through Articolo India, he has built a diversified business spanning brand distribution, private labels, manufacturing, imports and exports.
Every entrepreneur has a different starting point. For some, it is a family business. For others, it is a breakthrough idea. For Vikas Gupta, the journey began with a strong foundation in finance, years of corporate experience, and a desire to build something of his own.
Today, Gupta is the entrepreneur behind Articolo India, a business operating across multiple segments, including distribution and trading, private-label products, manufacturing, imports and exports.
A Career That Built the Foundation
A qualified Chartered Accountant and B.Com (Hons.) graduate from Shri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Vikas Gupta began his professional career in 2003.
Over the next nine years, he worked with established financial institutions, including GE and Macquarie Bank. His corporate career provided valuable exposure to financial management, business processes and the importance of structured decision-making.
However, Gupta's ambitions eventually took him beyond the corporate environment.
In January 2012, he embarked on his entrepreneurial journey with the establishment of Articolo India.
The transition from a salaried professional to a business owner marked a significant change in his career. Instead of working within an established organisation, he was now responsible for creating business opportunities, developing relationships and building an organisation from the ground up.
Building a Business Across Multiple Industries
Over the years, Articolo India has developed a diversified business portfolio.
Its distribution and trading operations represent brands such as Dhampure, Prasuma, Voila, Grandos, TWF, S&B, Nongshim and Mojoco. The company is also an authorised importer of Pavoni, Italy.
Beyond distributing established brands, Gupta ventured into private-label products through brands including ACI, Zero Stevia and Aftershock. The portfolio has included products such as honeycomb, gluten-free muesli, stevia-based sugar alternatives and energy drinks.
This expansion reflects an entrepreneurial approach that goes beyond relying on a single product category or revenue stream.
Articolo India's customer network spans hospitality, restaurants, manufacturing, modern retail and online commerce. Its business relationships include prominent names such as Taj, ITC, Oberoi, Leela, Marriott, Haldiram, Bikanerwala, Reliance, Spencer's, Blinkit and BigBasket.
The company's international business activities have also included rice exports to South Korea and Mojoco coconut water exports to the GCC region.
Moving from Trading to Innovation
One of the more interesting developments in Gupta's entrepreneurial journey is his move into manufacturing.
Among Articolo India's manufacturing products is Heatomatic, a self-heating pad designed to generate heat without requiring an external gas flame or electricity supply.
The product offers a practical approach to heating or preparing certain basic foods in situations where conventional cooking arrangements may not be available.
For Gupta, this represents another stage in business development: moving beyond trading and distribution into products that address everyday consumer needs.
The company's manufacturing portfolio also includes meat soaker pads, reflecting its involvement in specialised food-related products.
The Mindset Behind Diversification
What distinguishes Gupta's business journey is the variety of markets he has entered.
From financial services to food distribution, imported products, private labels, exports and manufacturing, his career demonstrates an ability to operate across different business environments.
Such diversification requires an understanding of changing consumer preferences, supply chains, product development and business relationships.
Rather than remaining limited to his original professional background, Gupta has continued exploring opportunities in sectors where he sees potential for long-term business development.
Looking Towards the Future
As consumer expectations evolve, businesses are increasingly looking for products that offer convenience, portability and practical solutions.
With Heatomatic, Gupta is exploring an area where product innovation can address the limitations of conventional heating methods.
His journey from corporate finance to entrepreneurship illustrates how professional experience, combined with the willingness to enter unfamiliar markets, can become the foundation for building a diversified business.
For Vikas Gupta, entrepreneurship is no longer simply about establishing a company. It is about continuously identifying opportunities, developing products and finding new ways to create value.
