For Shashi Bhushan Singh, the path to entrepreneurship began in a small town in Bihar, far removed from the gleaming offices of the executives he trains today. Born and raised in Nawrangiya, Madhuban, Singh grew up speaking Bhojpuri as his first language. His early ambition was to become a Chartered Accountant, a dream that brought him to Delhi after completing his schooling.
But Delhi was not always welcoming.
“As I was not able to speak English because I speak Bhojpuri as my first language, people used to make fun of my language and my accent,” Singh recalls.
What could have been a crippling setback became the catalyst for transformation. Determined not to let language hold him back, Singh enrolled at the British Council. Over five years, he immersed himself in General English, Spoken English, and Business Communication Skills courses.
The decision not only reshaped his communication abilities but also planted the seed for a venture that would eventually change countless lives.
The turning point came unexpectedly. Singh was preparing for a job interview when the company let him go before he could even prove himself.
“When I was doing my interview my company fired me then I got an idea to start it,” he shares.
That idea evolved into Verum Executive Leadership, a company dedicated to building communication and leadership capabilities for professionals at the highest levels.
Singh’s insight was simple but profound: communication is not synonymous with English.
“Almost every third person in the world is suffering from lack of communication and soft skills, and they have a misconception that English means communication,” he explains.
This misconception, Singh realized, was leaving professionals — especially in India — underprepared for leadership roles.
