From Neuroscience Labs to Himalayan Healing: Dr. Sumita Chakraborty’s Journey to Transformative Wellness

From neuroscience to the Himalayas, Dr. Sumita Chakraborty blends science and spirituality to create a transformative path to holistic wellness.

High up in the Himalayan foothills—where the crisp mountain air carries the scent of pine and life moves to nature’s rhythm—a new kind of healing movement is taking shape.

It’s not a spa. It’s not a yoga holiday.
It’s a deeply immersive, science-backed, community-powered retreat designed to realign the mind, body, and spirit.

This movement is led by Ananta Alaya, founded by neuroscientist-turned-hypnotherapist Dr. Sumita Chakraborty and yoga instructor and mountain leader Mr. Nitin Ananta.

Ananta Alaya: The Powerhouse for Transformation

Rooted in ancient traditions yet aligned with modern science, Ananta Alaya operates through four transformational branches:

  • Tana-Yog (body)

  • Mano-Yog (mind)

  • Dhana-Yog (wealth)

  • Sama-Yog (balance)

Together, these pillars empower individuals and communities to achieve health, stamina, peace, clarity, prosperity, purpose, and impact.

“Ananta Alaya is a powerhouse for transformation, where wellness, wisdom, wealth, and purpose come together, empowering you to live your highest potential,”
Dr. Sumita Chakraborty

Ananta Yogashraya: Healing Through the Body

Founded by Mr. Nitin Ananta, Ananta Yogashraya embodies tana-yog.
It honors the body as a living record of every experience—stress, trauma, heartbreak, and even buried emotions.

Drawing on insights from Dr. Gabor Maté and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, this branch uses yoga, mindful movement, and breathwork to gently release stored trauma and restore safety, balance, and well-being.

Centre for Hypnosis Practice & Research (CHPR): Reprogramming the Mind

Established by Dr. Chakraborty, CHPR represents mano-yog.

“We understand that 95% of brain activity is subconscious, shaping your habits, beliefs, emotions, creativity, and memory,” she explains.

Using hypnotherapy and guided transformative practices, participants access the theta brainwave state, where deep reprogramming occurs. Limiting patterns are reframed for lasting clarity, energy, and freedom.

Ananta Samrddhiii: Aligning Wealth with Well-Being

Co-founded by Dr. Chakraborty and Mr. Ananta, Ananta Samrddhiii focuses on dhana-yog.
It blends hypnotherapy, mindset transformation, and financial planning, with guidance from a SEBI-registered investment advisor.

The goal is to align financial freedom with personal values and life purpose, ensuring prosperity feels both strategic and soulful.

The Himalayan Retreat: Balancing the Elements

Representing sama-yog, the Himalayan Retreat is the most experiential branch of Ananta Alaya.

Organized by an expert team, it integrates yoga therapy, hypnotherapy, nutrition, and elemental immersion. Participants learn to balance the five elements—Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space—while surrounded by the untouched beauty of the Himalayas.

“Here, you are invited to step away from everyday distractions and step deeper into your own nature,” says Dr. Chakraborty.

The Scientist Who Listens to the Subconscious

Before co-founding Ananta Alaya and CHPR, Dr. Chakraborty spent years in neuroscience research.
She holds a PhD in Neuroscience from NCBS-TIFR, Bengaluru, and completed postdoctoral research at Cambridge and the Weizmann Institute of Science.

But the academic world left her craving deeper human connection.

“I realized that the brain is not just a biological organ—it’s the seat of every story we tell ourselves,” she reflects.

This realization led her to train in Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) under Marisa Peer in London. Her blend of neuroscience and subconscious reprogramming has since helped people in 20+ countries heal from trauma, anxiety, and more.

The Vision Takes Shape

Dr. Chakraborty noticed recurring challenges in the wellness industry:

  • Long timelines with limited results

  • High costs and specialization barriers

  • Stigma and isolation around therapy

She envisioned something holistic, affordable, and community-driven. That vision crystallized during a 40-day silent meditation retreat in South India.

“In the stillness, I experienced the same deep alignment I had been guiding my clients toward for years, but this time, it was urging me to act,” she recalls.

Upon returning to her Himalayan home, one message to her network brought 60 responses in an hour, and a core team of experts soon formed.

The Himalayan Five Elements Retreat Experience

This six-day immersive retreat is unlike typical wellness getaways. Participants move through naturopathy, yoga, and hypnotherapy surrounded by mountains and nourished with organic food.

Guided by therapists, each participant experiences personalized transformation with ease—building clarity, emotional release, and connection.

The first Himalayan Retreat by Ananta Alaya was held in Rishikesh (October 6–11, 2025), supported by Gokul Nature Cure Centre (Gomta, Gondal, Gujarat).

The centre addresses both everyday issues—like acidity, migraine, stress, diabetes—and chronic conditions including arthritis, neurological disorders, and skin diseases, within a safe, nurturing environment.

Challenges Along the Way

Dr. Chakraborty admits her greatest obstacles were internal.

“Self-doubt, fear, lack of alignment, and difficulty trusting myself were the real barriers,” she says.

Years in academia had made her rely heavily on intellect, leaving her disconnected when alignment broke. Healing came through returning to India, reconnecting with family, and immersing in long meditation retreats.

“Once I worked on my inner alignment, expansion became effortless. Opportunities and collaborators showed up almost instantly.”

The Road Ahead

In the next five years, Ananta Alaya aims to:

  • Offer holistic programs combining yoga, hypnosis, and nature-based practices for entrepreneurs and high performers.

  • Collaborate with schools to nurture children’s confidence, clarity, and emotional regulation.

  • Develop leadership and financial behavior programs that promote abundant mindsets and aligned growth.

“Our goal is to preserve the spirit of community, accessibility, and transformation even as we expand,” says Dr. Chakraborty.

Advice to Entrepreneurs

“Don’t wait for perfect clarity before you begin,” Dr. Chakraborty advises.
“Find inner alignment first. Once you do, the right people, opportunities, and resources will show up. Your role is to say yes—or no—and keep moving.”
