Ankit Kumar’s journey is as inspiring as his startup’s vision. A 2023 graduate of IIT Delhi, Ankit honed his engineering acumen as a member and eventual captain of the institute’s Formula Student team, crafting electric racecars and leading them to international acclaim.

"Being part of Formula Student felt like living in a startup—managing the team, building the product, raising funds, and solving operational challenges together," he shares.

This passion for innovation took him to Tesla, where he contributed to projects like the Cybertruck and Robotaxi. But his ultimate dream was to bring cutting-edge technology back to India. “Watching alumni and colleagues build startups inspired me to follow a similar path. My time at Tesla strengthened my resolve to create something impactful back home,” he says.

The idea for Blinq Mobility emerged from meticulous market research. Ankit and his co-founders identified a critical gap in India’s urban mobility landscape: taxis designed for high speeds and heavy payloads, which were redundant in city settings where speed limits seldom exceed 80 kph.

This mismatch inspired the team to design purpose-built electric microcars optimized for urban commuting—offering a balance of safety, comfort, and affordability.

"Our vision is to provide a 4-wheeler experience at a 3-wheeler price,” explains Ankit. Blinq Mobility’s electric pods fall under the L7 category (quadricycle) and feature swappable batteries for minimal downtime, making them ideal for ride-hailing operators.

A Team with a Shared Vision

Blinq Mobility’s founding team is a powerhouse of talent, united by a shared background at IIT Delhi’s Formula Student team. Ankit’s co-founders include Nikesh, a long-time mentor; Abhilasha, his fellow Tesla alumnus; and recent graduates Sushmita and Yashdeep.

"Our experiences in Formula Student equipped us with the engineering expertise and problem-solving mindset needed to tackle EV adoption challenges. Together, we envisioned building electric vehicles that cater specifically to urban India," Ankit recalls.

Overcoming Challenges with Innovation

Like any startup, Blinq Mobility’s journey has had its share of hurdles. One notable challenge was designing a sleek, high-quality car without resorting to expensive stamping processes.

The solution lay in composite materials, which not only provided the desired aesthetic but also matched steel in strength.

"Current taxis are expensive but comfortable, while auto-rickshaws are affordable but lack safety and comfort. Our pods bridge this gap with a purpose-built solution,” Ankit explains.

The target audience spans Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, with plans for international expansion to Southeast Asia and beyond.
