In a groundbreaking development for India’s technology landscape, IBM and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have joined forces to establish the nation’s largest quantum computer at the Quantum Valley Tech Park in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. This ambitious initiative will feature IBM’s Quantum System Two, powered by the cutting-edge 156-qubit Heron processor, marking a pivotal milestone in India's quantum computing journey.
This strategic collaboration supports India’s National Quantum Mission, aimed at advancing quantum technologies to solve complex problems across key sectors such as life sciences, materials science, supply chain management, energy, cryptography, and sustainable manufacturing. Quantum computing, with its potential to surpass classical computing capabilities, is poised to revolutionize these industries.
TCS will work closely with IBM to drive applied research and innovation, developing real-world use cases and solutions using quantum computing. Through the infrastructure at Quantum Valley Tech Park, TCS will play a central role in nurturing India’s growing quantum ecosystem, leveraging IBM’s world-leading quantum technologies.
“The National Quantum Mission is designed to establish India as a global leader in quantum technology,” said N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. “Our collaboration with IBM and TCS is a crucial step toward realizing this vision, positioning Quantum Valley Tech Park as a magnet for scientists, developers, and innovators worldwide.”
IBM will contribute its deep quantum expertise, empowering researchers and industry professionals to develop advanced quantum algorithms and solutions. According to Jay Gambetta, Vice President of IBM Quantum, this initiative is vital to achieving India's quantum advantage and addressing some of the world’s most pressing problems.
TCS will focus on building hybrid computing architectures that integrate quantum systems with classical infrastructure, such as CPUs and GPUs. Dr. Harrick Vin, Chief Technology Officer at TCS, emphasized the transformative potential of the collaboration in solving complex and previously unsolvable problems, thereby propelling India’s technological capabilities forward.
The Quantum Valley Tech Park will act as a national catalyst for quantum research and development. It will provide access to IBM’s cloud-based quantum computers and the on-site Quantum System Two, enabling industry and academia to experiment with quantum applications in areas such as energy optimization and supply chain resilience.
This initiative is expected to attract global investment and top-tier talent, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh as a hub for quantum innovation and high-end job creation. Aligned with the National Quantum Mission, the project aims to significantly enhance India’s position in the global quantum ecosystem.
More than just a technological leap, this partnership is a strategic economic catalyst, with the potential to drive growth in critical sectors, from healthcare and energy to defense and cryptography. As India installs its most advanced quantum system to date, Quantum Valley Tech Park is set to become a cornerstone of the country’s digital and scientific future.
Backed by IBM, TCS, and the Andhra Pradesh Government, the Quantum Valley initiative promises to place India at the forefront of global quantum computing leadership—ushering in a new era of innovation, research, and economic development.
