Mr. Banerjee is the Founder of Prep’d - A marketplace for seafood, meat, frozen foods and salad meal kits. Prep'd was born in the year 2021,when the nation was facing a 2nd lockdown. The demands for food supplies were growing and lack of enough fresh meat and seafood suppliers gave birth to this venture.
As mentioned by Debosmit Prep'd from the start has focused on fresh and timely delivery of products. The joy of customers is their biggest reward. It's what keeps us motivated. Prep'd offers special discounts to senior citizens, so they have a great customer base which are over 60 years in age. With a lot of pride they can say they take care of the pension holders.
The challenges faced by Debosmit were quite similar to what mostly all the Startups face - right from limitations of funds, getting a proper storage facility amidst lockdown, they have had a journey of many ups and downs. Debosmit mentions in the first six months he had personally delivered more than 3000 orders to their customers. The ever-increasing petrol prices and shipping costs was also a huge roadblock in the delivery business.
But, Debosmit’s motivation was the ever increasing customer base and their words of encouragement which kept on pushing him and doing his best to overcome all the hindrances which came in the way of him turning Prep’d into a successful venture and him becoming a successful entrepreneur with his first business idea.
To begin with they started with just 4 employees handling the daily backend operations. They also did their part for women empowerment by having tie ups with local women to cater to local deliveries through scooters which helped them earn a decent income working part-time. Apart from all this they have partnered with Dunzo for deliveries which helped them reach a bigger audience.
The major product segments are Raw Meats and Seafood. Apart from these they also sell marinated meats, frozen snacks and artisan meats of various brands. Company's Plans as shared by Debosmit are venturing into fresh salad meal kits during this year.
As told to us by Mr. Banerjee, The online meat market is a 1000 Crore industry, there is enough space for companies to organize the sector and find their pool of customers. The main focus of every business should be to give consistent service to customers, and create a tech enabled supply chain system which is sustainable. From procurement of meat, it's storage and to delivery there is enough scope for startups to solve problems at each stage.
Furthermore he would like to share his ideas & suggestions for people who want to be a part of a scalable business, and try to solve a problem. It can be a simple or complex problem, it doesn't matter. Being a part of the solution will always keep you relevant. Always keep an eye on your costs and take calculated risks.
