With an unwavering passion for knowledge, he laid a strong academic foundation by earning a B.Sc in Chemistry from Kerala University in 1980, followed by an M.Sc in Chemistry from Agra University in 1982. His quest for deeper insights led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Science from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, in 1990, specializing in polymer science—a field that has defined much of his work since. 

Beyond his formal education, Dr. Varughese’s academic excellence is underscored by his international scientific publications, spanning from 1987 to 2024, reflecting his stature as an international-level scientist. With an H-index of 34 and over 5300 citations on Google Scholar, Dr. Varughese is on par with senior professors and scientists at the global level, illustrating his influential contributions to the field. 

Illustrious Career at Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) 

Dr. Varughese's career trajectory took off when he joined the prestigious Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Bengaluru, in 1989. Over 31 years, he ascended through various roles, including Scientific Officer, Joint Director, Additional Director, and ultimately Group Head. His work at CPRI spanned R&D management, laboratory oversight, and the organization of international conferences, including the landmark International Conference on Polymers in Power Engineering (ICPMPE-2007), which set new benchmarks in the power engineering sector. 

His leadership extended to administrative responsibilities, showcasing his managerial acumen, while his work at CPRI established him as a pivotal figure in research and development in India. 

Mentorship and Legacy in Academia 

From 1993 to 2020, Dr. Varughese served as a recognized Research Guide at the School of Chemical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, mentoring eight Ph.D. scholars and contributing to dissertations at premier institutions such as IISc Bangalore, Mysore University, and NIT Warangal. His impact as a mentor and educator reached far beyond his immediate students, influencing generations of researchers and academics. 

Transitioning to Intellectual Property and Education 

In 2022, Dr. Varughese’s career took a significant turn when he became a Registered Indian Patent Agent (IN/PA-4269). As an Indian Patent Agent and a Startup Facilitator for filing patent applications, he seamlessly transitioned into the realm of intellectual property rights. He enhanced his expertise by earning a Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights Law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. 

Dr. Varughese is currently the Director and President of ConClavit, an educational platform dedicated to advanced training in IPR. His courses, such as “Simplified Patent Drafting and Filing” and “Coaching for the Patent Agent Exam,” are central to his mission to produce top-tier patent professionals in India.

Throughout the year, he conducts highly sought-after patent classes, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the Patent Agent Examination in India. His classes run Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and Wednesday to Sunday from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., attracting a wide array of candidates who seek to excel in the patent domain. 

Dr. Varughese's inclusive approach is especially notable. He admits candidates with only a portion of the fees upfront, allowing them to pay the remainder after passing the exam.
