The world's fastest production car is now at 508 kmph

On October 10, previously this month, SSC North America chanced to put a new speed record and deployed the Tuatara with street tires and ran non-race fuel on an upright and open expanse of the road just outside Las Vegas. This was the same place where some of the previous records were made and broken.

The professional racer Oliver Webb was behind the wheels who did two opposite runs clocking top speeds of 301.07 mph and 331.15 mph for an average top speed of 316 mph. That the car hit 331.15 mph also made it the highest speed ever hit by a vehicle on a public road.

Only 100 units of SSC Tuatara are being made with prices upwards of $1.6 million. SSC Tuatara is powered by a twin-turbo 5.9-liter V8 engine and has 1726 bhp of max power with a dry weight of 1,247 kilos.

What SSC Tuatara supercars recently did was racing against the wind, to become the world's fastest vehicle in production. It shattered the previous record of 277.87 mph (447.19 km/h) with a speed like the lightning of 316 mph (approximately 508 km), held by Koenigsegg Agera RS It outpaced all other previous records over the past decade or so.

The entire test was monitored and recorded by a special GPS measurement device and 15 satellites. There existed two certified observers to the entire program.

The other records broken by the car are:
Fastest Flying Mile on a Public Road" at 313.12 mph (503.92 km/h)
Fastest Flying Kilometer on a Public Road" at 321.35 mph (517.16 km/h)

Interestingly, Webb is believed to have said that the Tuatara could have gone even quicker had there been no or very little crosswinds.
