Early life & Education

Owing to my father’s transferable job, my childhood was spent in multiple cities across the country. In every 3- to 4 years, I would have a new home, a new school and a new set of friends. This ritual made adapting to change easy and quick.

My passion towards technology made it an obvious choice to take up computer science as my core subject for engineering. However, by a twist of fate, I landed up doing my post-graduation in Human Resources and thoroughly enjoyed a decade long career managing significant roles in an alco-beverages major.

Motivation

My biggest motivation has been my mother who, for me, is an epitome of perseverance. She managed a small time boutique from our home and that is where I got my inspiration to start a clothing line of my own. I lived with this dream for years and finally decided to give it a shot and kick-started ‘Moxa’ last year.

Idea

The idea behind starting the brand was to create time less and unique silhouettes that cut across all generations and body types. We are driven by the passion to make sustainable garments that are traditional yet contemporary, minimal yet versatile.

The name Moxa is derived from the word 'Moksha' which means liberation from the web of Maya, the cycles of Birth and Death, and, experiences of bliss. Moksha is not only attained afterlife but also right here, in this life, by liberating oneself from a sense of lack, insecurity, and fear - a feeling of pure bliss.

The word Moxa emerges and closely translates to one's purpose in life. At House of Moxa, we have a purpose deeper than just running a fashion business. We are committed to giving back to society through our sustainability goals to impact the lives of many artisans.

The brand is established on three pillars that are reflected in our logo, a three petalled Lotus; Purity of designs, Sustainability in many forms, and Customer delight

Inception

House of Moxa started in June 2021.

What keeps us going hard?

The ability to empower artisans and help them earn a livelihood is the most fulfilling experience. That’s what I love the most. Also happy customers make me a lot happier ☺

What were the challenges you faced and what motivated you to continue? –

The biggest challenge was to step into unknown terrains. I come from an Engineering and Management background, so I had to invest a lot of time in learning about the fashion Industry, Indian textiles and other nuances. Also, interestingly, I model for my own brand so that pushed me out of my comfort zone, but once I started there was no looking back.

Product/Collections

We provide premium garments for women in slow and sustainable fashion space. Every collection and garment has a story behind it.

Prominent Collections –

  1. I am Made of you – This was our first collection and is dedicated to all those who have touched my life in many ways and have shaped me to be what I am today! For this collection we have used handwoven organic cotton called Kala Cotton that is indigenous to Kutch.

  2. Handwoven Jamdani Dupattas - Jamdani represents one of the finest and most ancient forms of weaving that originated in Bengal. This fabric is characterised by intricately designed motifs that seem to float on the surface of a finely woven fabric.

  3. Make a wish –This collection is a reminder to keep wishing and trying everything to ensure those wishes are met and dreams are fulfilled. We have used hand spun and handwoven fabric dyed in natural dyes.

Our team

We are officially a team of 6 including our artisans. Their work is a reflection of their satisfaction level.

Future plans

Currently our major focus is to establish our brand and make sure we are doing everything right in terms of standing true to our commitment of providing sustainable fashion and that takes a lot of experimentation, patience and perseverance.
