“The only time I feel alive is when I am painting”

Nishka Mehta is an assiduous and a diligent artist who inspires learners to come forward and grab the passion of holding a paint brush and show their creativity. Being creative is not just a hobby, it is a way of life. Every artist is first an amateur. Gradually by imagination and innovation when an individual creates new shades and designs, eventually becomes an artist. Art is when you hear a knocking from your soul…and you answer.

Nishka was a mere child of nine years when she began sketching and doodling on her own. The painting colours, brushes and palette attracted her immensely. Her dream as a student was to become a fashion designer playing with tints and shades on various fabrics. After much of exploring and investigating she came to know that every fashion institute demanded for a portfolio of paintings. This motivated her to play with paints and display her creativity to her best. Unfortunately, she did not get admission in the college of her choice due to some personal reasons. Although, she went to Christ University to pursue Bachelors in Business Management. But her dream was to create the world with colours and make it exotic.

When her graduation was completed, subsequently, she made up her mind to start her first and foremost business – ART BEAT. It took four years to accomplish the profession successfully. Thereafter, she commenced her second business- PAINT BAR.

Her friend who recently owned a co-working space in Bangalore got interested in hosting painting workshops in collaboration with her. This seemed an icing on the cake. She seemed more fascinated in organizing workshops for the learners instead of coaching. There came an idea to alliance ourselves, hence with joint efforts they sow the seeds of PAINT BAR. Being sceptical of the success, they both thought to host only one workshop as they wished to see the response of the learners. Though, to their astonishment, the feedback of the freshers was overwhelming. The scholars found this platform fruitful. Furthermore, they both stepped ahead and began organizing more such productive workshops.

Nevertheless, Nishka continued for the same profession and presently to the count she had painted with over more than 4000 people. On top of that she has volunteered more than 200 workshops.

It is aptly quoted – “We do not grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges.”  The mammoth challenge faced was how to convince people that this workshop was only for novices and not experts. Basic motive of the workshops was to encourage the learners who don’t know how to hold brush but they want to become an artist. The objective behind these tutorials is to make people come out of their comfort zone, showcase their talent and become innovative in the field of painting. Here, in the practicum, the teaching goes step-by-step. Also, the materials are provided by Nishka herself. The students are only supposed to attend and learn new form of arts.

The joy and satisfaction knock one’s door when you see the customer’s happy faces. This was the case with Nishka after every workshop and lecture she delivers. Seeing the clientele contented gives motivation to do furthermore for them. There are numerous people who have attended the workshops, painted for the first time and are now continuing the learning on the regular basis.

It’s been five years now that Nishka has been hosting workshops in restaurants and cafes. Presently, she possesses her own personal space to run her artistry business. She has a team of four members who try to work in all four directions collectively.

Nishka advises her clients and other people to always try something new as initial steps are difficult but the end result is satisfactory. Once somebody has taken the first steps and has step out of his comfort zone, the rest of it falls into place.
